Privacy & Language

Part of caring for our children, young adults, and team members includes protecting their privacy and identities. It also means respecting them in the language we use. See below for more information on how we protect the stories of those in our care.

Privacy & Confidentiality policy

Never share a person’s name, location, background, or family history without direct permission from Children’s Services.* To protect identities, change names and use stock photography when possible.

If stock photography is not available, do not share photos of children under 14 years of age or photos of any person who has not provided explicit permission to share their likeness.

*Requests for permission can be sent directly to the Director of Social Services.

PALMER HOME CEO DRAKE BASSETT

Drake Bassett serves as President and CEO of Palmer Home for Children, an organization that has provided superior care for children for more than 127 years.

Since 2012, Drake has guided Palmer Home with his leadership skills and experience. He is passionate about creating a positive work environment, energizing his team and providing individualized care to every child and family Palmer Home serves.

Under his leadership, Palmer Home has experienced significant growth. He has guided Palmer Home as it launched its proprietary approach to care, Whole Child Initiative, and expanded its services to include Family Care, Transitional Care, and Foster Care.

Palmer Home has also seen expansion on its campus under Drake’s direction. Three additional homes were built in 2017. In 2022, a stateoftheart Wellness Center opened its doors, to include a counseling suite, educational suite, and an administrative suite to better serve the needs of each child in Palmer Home’s care.

In addition to his work at Palmer Home, Drake serves in his church and on the board of several other organizations. He has over 20 years of corporate experience. Before joining Palmer Home, he served as CEO of Claritas, a data and technology corporation.

Drake and his wife, Kelley, have been married for 36 years and enjoy time with their four children and four grandchildren.

 

 

PEOPLE-FIRST LANGUAGE

Always aim to use “People-First Language.” Consider ability, health status, etc. in a descriptive way without placing potentially harmful or unhelpful labels on any individual. Instead of using these items as identifiers, use them as descriptors for additional context if needed.

EMPLOYEE Social Media GUIDELINES

Palmer Home for Children acknowledges that social media can be a great way to connect with friends and family and share updates about one’s life. However, social media also presents certain risks and responsibilities.

The purpose of these guidelines is to empower Palmer Home employees to engage responsibly on social media and provide guidelines for maintaining an appropriate social media presence.
